Our mining prophet

Dullness bas been the chief >-haracteristic of the mining market during the past week, and there has been little demand for stocks, except at sacrificing rates. The reason for this is to be found in the fact that the local market has been swamped with new flotations, and until the foreign capitalist comes to the rescue and takes some of these off our hands things are likely to remain in their present quiet condition. There has been a strong demand for Barrier stocks during the week, and the excellent return from the Waihi has caused several of the adjoining properties to be sought after. Lrtest advice from London states that the market there is improving, and if this be so, we may expect a revival here before Christmas. Adelaide.—A drop in this stock from 2s 8d to 2s without any reason. Good to buy for a quick rise. Alburnia.— Moving upwards. One of the best investment stocks on the Thames. Buy and put by for a twelvemonth. Great Barrier Gold and Silver. —High enough at present. Produced the only bit of excitement on ’Change this week. A prominent member of the Brokers’ Association paid 6s 6d for a thousand shares, when there were heaps of sellers at 5s 6d. Staange, but true Mount Argentum.—Wait a bit; they will be back to Is. It is only a storekeepers’ rush. Comstock.—Good enough at the money. Alburnia East. —Will see better prices during the next four weeks. Hazelbank.—Hold on like grim death. Good things coming from this quarter soon. May Queen. —A long time reaching £l, but they will get there all the same. Cardigan.—Shareholders benefited to the extent of £5OO by the purchase falling through. Another option on better terms granted. New Whau and Clunes. —No news from Homes. Has the flotation fallen through ? Worth twice the money, notwithstanding. Orlando.—The boss call-maker, but a disappointment to shareholders. Sheridan. —The crashing said to realise nearly £lOOO. If this be so, shares are cheap at the money. There are only 50,000 shares in the company, and £12,500 would be a very low value to put on the mine. Quinlan and Company have been the only buyers during the past fortnight. Hastings, late Sheridan No. 2.—Adjoins the Sheridan, and is spoken well of by experts. Recently floated, by Messrs. Woodhouse and Burns. Victoria. —As sound as a bell. Steady returns from mine, and floatation at Home assurred. Worth considerably more money. Comet. —Bogus telegrams caused a stir on the market. Those who ought to know better bought at the top. Elemington (Whangamata). — Considerable enquiries for this stock at 6d, and a good crowd, buying. Holders should be slow to part. Waipura.—Quite high enough at present. Albert Tairua. —Why this great fluctuation in price. Sales from 2s to 2s lOd, and back to 2s. Great expectations in store here. Take my advice and. hold fast. Alpha.—Still hanging fire. Central. —A very good shot at the present money. Golden Spur.—Floated at Is, and now selling at 3£d. Well worth buying at the latter figure. Hercules. —One of the mysteries of the market. The large holders suddenly took it into their heads to sell and brought down their own stock 50 per cent. There is method sometimes in madness. Flower or Waihi.— As dead as a door nail. Imperial.—The best stocks always suffer most in quiet times. Now selling at 2s, and well worth buying at that figure. New Zealanders. —One of the best of the cheap Waitekauri stocks. Waihi. —Record crushing this month. Ought to move things at Home. Waihi Consols. —Cheap at anything under Is. Golden Anchor. —One of the best Kuaotuna investments. Proepect.—Very low at present. ' Mountain Flowers. — Withering fast, and not likely to live through the first call. Maori Dream. —Buy whilstyoucan get them cheap. Bunker’s Hill.—Not likely to rise before the new year. Great Kapanga. — Rumours of the great things coming shortly from the Kapanga ought to move this stock. Kapai-Vermont.—What caused the flutter? Very cunning folks buying, and equally knowing ones selling. My advice is to hold. fast. Rising Sun.—Advanced from 6d to lOd during the week. Mine said Io be looking well. Safe to hold for a while. Moanatairi. —Home orders sent this stock to £l. Now somewhat easier, but good enough at the money. TarArua Creek. —Selling at 10s in 1 ondon, and quite safe to buy on the local market at 7s. Hauraki Associated. — Crushing at th Moanatairi Company’s battery turned out firste class. Specimen stone still coming to hand.Only drawback is the large number of shares in the mine. ■ "- 1

Talisman. —Will not remain long at 15s. Now is the time to buy.
