Russell, proprietor of the Occidental Hotel, - Auckland. Fiest Bound.—Stormfiend beat Lizzie God■frey, Pretty May beat Simoon, Blue Girl beat Linwood, Ajax beat Shooting Star, Balfe beat Monowai, Persimmon beat Sir Thomas, See Saw heat White Hind, Discard beat Madame Patty, Ascot beat Monasto, Cushla beat Robin, Ronda beat Port Admiral, Doris beat The Fiend, Luck’s All beat Guy Fawkes, Dora B. beat Wisdom, Smoko ran a bye. SECOND Round.—Stormfiend beat Pretty May, Ajax beat Blue Girl, Balfe beat Persimmon, Dis--card beat See Saw,. Cushla beat Ascot, Doris beat Bonda, Luck’s All beat Smoko, Dora B. ran a bye. The remaining courses will be decided on Saturday. There were only two “no courses” during the two first rounds of the Challenge Stakes. There was lively wagering on Friday and Mon" day night in connection with the Auckland Coursing Club’s Challenge Stakes. Besides the individual wagering, W. Proffitt laid Dan McLeod £6OO to £2OO that he picked the winner in five, naming Lizzie Godfrey, Balfe, Ronda, Luck’s All, and Pretty May. W. Proffitt also accepted £lOO to £2O that Lizzie Godfrey and Balfe would be winner and runner-up. Lizzie Godfrey was beaten in her first course by Stormfiend. I think the Napier penciller will have to rely on Luck’s All to win for him.
