There was lively wagering on Friday and Mon" day night in connection with the Auckland Coursing Club’s Challenge Stakes. Besides the individual wagering, W. Proffitt laid Dan McLeod £6OO to £2OO that he picked the winner in five, naming Lizzie Godfrey, Balfe, Ronda, Luck’s All, and Pretty May. W. Proffitt also accepted £lOO to £2O that Lizzie Godfrey and Balfe would be winner and runner-up. Lizzie Godfrey was beaten in her first course by Stormfiend. I think the Napier penciller will have to rely on Luck’s All to win for him.
