Coursing Notes.

[by

ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS.

A.C.H., Napier.—Yes; you must register the pup before three months old if you wish to run it in the Puppy Stakes. The National Coursing Club Rule No, 6 reads:— “Every litter of greyhounds must be registered in the hooks of the National Coursing Club of New Zealand before the puppies are three months old, or they will not he allowed to run in any sapling or puppy stakes.” It will be necessary now for you to register your pnp with any of the coursing clubs affiliated to the National Club, Dunedin. The Hawke’s Bay Club would take the registration, or you can forward particulars and two shillings and sixpence to Mr H. H. Hayr, secretary of the Auckland Club, who will attend to the registration.

This week we give a picture of Fabulous Fortune, the winner of the English Waterloo Cup, and another picture of Mr Bladon and his famous bitch “ Bloomer,” winner of the Dunedin Challenge Stakes, and of Mr Martin Taylor’s bitch Lizzie Godfrey runner up for the same stake.

Mr J. W. Russell, landlord of the Occidental Hotel, Vulcan Lane, has presented a very handsome silver cup to the Auckland Coursing Club, which is to be given to the winner of the Challenge Stakes, at the June Meeting. The cup is on view in Mr Williamson’s, tobacconist, shop window. The drawing in connection with the Auckland Coursing Club’s meeting, to be decided on Wednesday, 13th and Saturday, 16th, took place at the Occidental Hotel, on Monday night. Some life was infused into the betting, and some fairly brisk speculation took place after the draw. For the New Lynn Maiden Stakes Ginger was made favourite, while Discard was the principal selection for the Avondale Cup, although Doro 8., Stormfiend, and See Saw were accord-'- 1 support The weather does not look altogether m»x«— o

the first day’s coursing, and it is to be hoped that it will be more favourable on Saturday.
