Narrate, attended by Glenelg, was in the lead until the last hurdle, where Rangipai joined them, the trio taking the hurdle together, but Glenelg drew out opposite the stand and won fairly comfortably by two lengths, the same distance between second and third. From a good start, Barman took up the running, and when the field had settled down and going along the back the last time Barman was just clear of Leander, Zaccho, and Cleave. Coming along the side stretch Le Grand rushed up to the leaders, and took the last hurdle in company with Barman and Zaccho, and from here a good race resulted in Barman winning all out by a neck, a length between second and third ; Leander fourth. From a fairly good start, Strathbraan shot to the front, and passing the stand the first time had a lead of nearly six lengths, his nearest, attendants being Rangipuhi, .Tireuse, and The Miser. Going along the back The Miser was the nearest to Strathbraan, the gap being reduced by three lengths, with Ngatuere and Tireuse just behind The Miser, all being ridden hard, trying to catch the son of Engigement. As the field were approaching the home bend, The Miser and Swift were within a length of Strathbraan, Pompom and Ngatuere next, all under the whip, but Strathbraan was galloping well within himself, and although Swift, who was rolling about at the finish, got to within a length of Strathbraan, Kingan never released his hold of the horse and won easily by a length, The Miser four lengths away third, Pompom fourth. Good start. Disraeli, Violet, and First Sight took up the running and raced together to the turn, where Disraeli dropped back again through being crossed by another horse. However, McCormick got him going again, and he joined Violet and First Sight at the distance, with First. Result next. Half way up the straight Opai began to forge up on the outside of Disraeli, when Bona Fide, under the whip, shot through between the two, but Opai tackled him and, after an exciting finish, won by a short neck, half a length between second and third. This order was maintained until coming out of the back stretch, where Zaccho and Rangipai moved up to Narrate, and the two latter raced together to the last hurdle, where Rangipai drew out and won comfortably by two lengths, four lengths between second and third. Inside the distance Lotion and Acone were still racing together, the latter apparently having the race well in hand, but nearly opposite the stand Davis had to shake np the Aucklander, but Acone answered quickly, and, drawing away, won by two lengths, Flying Shot five lengths away third, Strathbraan fourth. At Masterton, on Friday, the 21st ult., the stipendiary magistrate (Mr Hutchison) gave judgment in a case, in which Thomas Maher claimed from; William Redmond, an hotelkeeper in the town, £2O for money deposited in trust. The defence was that the money had been more than liquidated in boarjJ and lodging and drinks. His worship gave judgment for £l2 10, the amount placed in trust -with Redmond, less board and lodging OiWing. The decision was appealed against.
