CANTERBURY NOTES.
OUR OWN
February 27.
The Canterbury Metropolitan Trotting Association declined to re-open the case of Smith, disqualified on account of his connection with the trotter Here-I-Go.
The Christchurch trotter, Fantasy, who won a double at Tahuna Park last week, made a remarkable improvement during the time the Keiths were training her. She showed just 59sec better time at Dunedin than she has ever done in Canterbury. There seems little probability of the proposed match, Pither v. Rita, coming to a head at present. At the meeting of the Canterbury Metropolitan Trotting Association the programmes of the Waimate Racing Club, South Canterbury Jockey Club, and Akaroa County Racing Club were approved. Applications were received from the Ashburton and Geraldine Clubs for permits to hold meetings in April and May. It was resolved to reply that owing to the allocation of days not being definitely settled, the association cannot pass programmes, but will advise when allocation is finally fixed.
Ji Mr Eattray informs me (writes our Christchurch correspondent) that he has received information from Wellington to the effect that Marsh and J. Wright were disqualified for life, and the trotter Victorina for five years. It will be recollected that Victorina trotted in Wellington under the name of Florence. The discuasion re the trotter Bilbah has been adjourned for a fortnight to allow Yates to bring evidence.
