SKETCHES AT WELLINGTON RACING CLUB’S SPRING MEETING.
-conformation he is not the best style for this course. The abrupt turns may not suit him. 4St Regel, if in form, should take a lot of beating; but nothing amongst the light - weights looks better than Anita. The best of Messrs, Alison Bros.’ pair has a chance. To name two 111 trust to Fabulist and Anita. Even with 9.8 Romeo has a hope in the Pony Race, but I don t fancy the chance. Rodney won a five and a half furlong Pony Race at the Shore last season with 8.0, and at 41 bs more has a good prospect. But Arquebus has a better one, and if I tried a bet that would be my mark. Of the eight two-year-olds in the Devonport Handicap, five furlongs, 1 like Nestor and Lady Anna. That brings us down to the Spring Handicap, five ani a half furlongs, in which there are twenty-one sprinters to wade through. The Sharper has been given a chance in this, but of late his runs have been very bad. Lady Agnes, Heart of Oak, and Miss Nelson are the best light-weights, and of those higher in the scale I like Fabulist, Hazelmere, and Anita. This race carries a 71b penalty for the St. Andrew’s Handicap winner, so the running in that race will have to be taken into account. This is Hazelmere’s only engagement at the meeting, so a bet on her might prove payable;
