A.J.C. SPRING MEETING. Eine weather was experienced for the third day (19th inst.) of the A.J.C. Spring Meeting. The two principal events resulted as follow : — The Craven Plate, a sweepstake of 10 sovs each, with 400 sovs added. Second horse 50 sovs from the prize. For three-year-olds and upwards. One mile and a quarter. Mr W. R. Hall’s br h Delaware, by Trenton — Genesta, syrs, 9.4, Parker ... ... 1 Mr H. C. White’s ch f Georgic, 3yrs, 7.4, Luckman ... ... ... ... ••• 2 Mr W. Kelso’s br g Newman, aged, 9.1, Cook 3 Also started — Patron, Trenchant, Ruenalf, Portsea, Nobleman, Little Agnes, Cartridge, and Valiant. Betting : 7 to 2 against Georgic, 5 to 1 Nobleman, 6 to 1 Delaware, 7 to 1 Mahee. Delaware led till entering the straight, where he was challenged by Georgic. A fine finish ended in a victory for Delaware by three-quar-ters of a length. Time, 2min 13sec. [Last year Patron won this race, with Paris and Euroka in the places.] The Eighth Biennial Stakes of 10 sovs each, with 300 sovs added. For three-ytar-olds. One mile and a quarter Mr H. Mr H. C. Thompson’s b c Lochaber, by Lochiel —Keepsake ... 0 Messrs Bailey and Orr’s ch c Onward, by Gang Forward —Haidee ... ... ... 0 Mr H. C. Redavni was first into the straight, followed by Vivian. At the Leger stand Vivian was in front, but Waterfall came up on the outside and after a great finish won by a short neck. Time, 2min 14sec. [Bonuie Scotland disgraced himself in this event last year, for after winning the Derby he was never in the hunt, and Nobleman, who was unplaced in the Derby, cut out a scorching pace and won comfortably, Cobbitty second, and Chesterman third.] The principal events of the concluding day (21st inst.) of the A.J.C. meeting resulted as follow :— The Waverley Handicap of 300 sovs. One mile and three-quarters. Messrs Brennan and Noake’s ch h The Trier, by Trident—Ladybird, 6yrs, 7.10, Condon 1 Mr G. Wright’s ch h Royal Rose, syrs, 8.0, J. Gallagher... ... ... ... ... 2 Mr W. R. Hall’s blk h Oxide, 6yrs, Parker... 3 Nine horses starf ed. Betting : 6to 4 against Royal Rose, 3 to 1 The Trier.
The Trier ran home an easy winner by three lengths. Royal Rose came with a late run but could not get up to the winner. Time, 3min 91 secs. [This race provided a great contest last year, Nightingale, The Trier, and Royal Rose being separated by heads in the order named. On that occasion The Trior carried 7.6 and Royal Rose 8.4, the time being 3min 7.j sec.] The Randwick Plate of 400 sovs. Three miles. Mr J. Wilson’s br m Quiver, by TrentonTremulous, 4yrs, 8.9, Ettridge ... ... 1 Mr S. Hordern’s ch g Toreador, 3yrs, 6.9, Cleal 2 Mr H. C. White’s ch c Fort, 3yrs, 6.12, Cook 3 Portsea, Newman, Chesternian, Woodford, and Loch Leigh also started. Betting : 4to 1 Portsea, Chesterman, Woodford, and Toreador, 5 to 1 Quiver. Quiver took command after half the journey had been covered, and won by several lengths. Time, smin 36sec. [Last year Chesterman (6.12) won from Patron and Light Artillery in 5.25, the N.S.W. record for three miles.
