MEETING OF THE AUCKLAND LICENSED VICTUALLERS.

At a meeting of the licensed victuallers held at the Metropolitan Hotel, Queen Street, yesterday, the question of raising the price of spirits to sixpence all round, no nobblers, and the raising of beer to fourpence per pint and long glass, and threepence per half pint and small glass was considered. The members of committee who had canvassed the trade re the matter informed the meeting that all those waited upon had unanimously agreed that the prices of spirits and beer be raised to the above mentioned standard. A motion by Mr Hunter, seconded by Mr Buck “ that the price be raised to the standard decided upon,” was carried unanimously, the dates fixed upon for the proposal to come into force being : — spirits on and after September Ist, and beer on and after September 16th. It was decided that a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs Purcell, McLeod, Hunter, arid Quinlan, be appointed to wait upon the remaining members of the trade in order to obtain their signatures in favour of the course decided upon by those present.
