WANGANUI.
[by wire.] May 14. Rags and Variety are being schooled over jumps, the first named with a view of cross country events and Variety for hurdle racing. Kapua will be ridden in the Wanganui Steeplechase by his old pilot, George Hope. The son of The Mute is .greatly fancied here for that event. Johnny Faa returned from the West Coast last week and is now in his old stable at the Red Lion Hotel. For the forthcoming Wanganui Steeplechase Meeting there is every prospect of a most successful gathering and some good racing should be the order of the day My selections are as follows:— Flying, Waiuku or The Artist; Wanganui Steeplechase, Kapua, Norton, and Booties ; Winter Oats, Waiuku, Irish Twist, Lorelei ; Hack Flat, Ascot Vale ; Hunters’ Steeplechase, Amalgam; Trial Steeplechase, Spreydon or Egmont. Nile who performed with credit on the West Coast has been sold by Mr Kean to a Reefton for the sum of £5O.
Entry fell while schooling last week and knocked himself out for some time otherwise he probably would have been a starter at Egmont.
