AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB SUMMER MEETING.

The Summer gathering of the Auckland Trotting Club-will--'be- concluded at Potter’s Paddock to-day;:' .Whether the meeting will be a success is a very open question in view of the slaughtering that took last night when acceptances fell due. The fields will be poor in the extreme so far as the trotting events are concerned, for with only five acceptors in the big event, the President’s Handicap, six in the Telegraph ‘ mile trot,’ and seven in the 2J-mile harness trot things look decidedly “ blue.” The pony fields promise well, but the trots look very select. Respecting the events for miniatures, the 6£-furlong race, the Jew Year Handicap, looks a good thing for Vampire with all his 10.5. He or Nellie should settle things, Little Hero next best. For the five and a half furlong Grandstand Handicap Vampire may be a trifle over weighted, but he is such a good starter that he may again get home. Direct has a big chance and Veoline may upset things. The Maiden Pony Handicap, five furlongs, may be won by Zephpr. Butterfly should win the Steeplechase, for" she meets Helena on 161bs better terms than on Thursday. My col-; league; Nancy Hanks,” sends me the following tips. re the trots:.—- President’s Handicap, Schoolgirl. Peerless, if ridden well, should win. Second Maiden, Maid of Killarney oij Disappointment. Glasgow, Rita all the way; Telegraph; Spreydon Lad. ’ . ;
