The French were very confident that Gouvernail would carry the Jockey Club Stakes to France, but, thanks to Mr. McCalmont’s champion, Isinglass, victory was denied the invader. The winner’s time for the mile and two furlongs was 2min. 13sec. The £2,202 surplus subscriptions to the stakes increased the value to £12,202, of which sum Mr. McCalmont as owner and nominator of Isinglass receives £11,302, and M. 1 E. Blanc, the owner and nominator of Gouver- i nail £7OO, while Lord Durham.receives £2OO for r the third place obtained by Son o’ Mine.
