Victoria Handicap, 7 furlongs, 9.5, in lm 355. He also ran second to Loyalty in the First C.J.C. Challenge Stakes, 6 furlongs, canning 9 0, the winner cutting out the distance in lm 14s. He is the only son left in New Zealand of that wonderful mare Idalia, who produced Betrayer Liverpool, Fair Nell, and Sir Modred and Cheviot, who are now the champion sires of America. One of Sir Modred’s get brought £B4O at the recent sale of the Rancho del Paso yearlings. # Idalia, the dam of Eros, as a broodmare, is well worthy to take rank with the famous old-time mares Penelope, dam of Whalebone and Whisker, or of the Alexander Mare, dam of Selim Reubens and Castrel, or of the more recent but equally celebrated Pocahontas, dam of Stockwell, Rataplan and King Tom; for, like these celebrated English matrons, Idalia’s sons have already become known far and wide by their phenomenal success as stud horses in America, where Sir Modred and Cheviot are now located, „ ~ , . --n Yattendon, the sire of St. George, who sired Eros, was also sire of Grand Flaneur, a horse that never suffered defeat, and winner of all the great three-year-old events, beside Champion and Melbourne Cup. Amongst numerous other of Yattendon’s stock, mention'need only be made of Lady Emma and Yatterina, whose performances in New Zealand are too well known to mention. Cambuscan, sire of Idalia, was also sire of the celebrated Hungarian mare Kincsem, who won 54 races, and never suffered defeat.
