WELLINGTON FOOTBALL.

[_from our correspondent. ] From a football point of view the South Canterbury v. Wellington match was a rank failure, and neither side can be complimented on their play. The Wellington forwards played without the least idea of combination, and the opposing forwards played havoc with them. Had it not been for the “ crack ” Wellington backs the local team would have suffered defeat. Wynyard made some splendid runs and scored two tries, while Roberts also showed good form, touching down twice. The other try was obtained by Hyland. Gage was far below his old form in the first spell, but was seen to better advantage in the second half. A. Duncan and Bennett were decidedly “ off,” and on Saturday’s form are utterly unfit for representative honours. McKenzie, on the wing, was the only forward who displayed good form of the local men. The South Canterbury backs were h poor lot, but the forwards showed better form, Gardner, Fox, Hatt, Stewart, Hall and Kerr showing out conspicuously d trring the game. Unless the Wellington men play with more combination in their matches against the Northern teams, I fear they will have an, unsuccessful trip.
