On the Training Track.
The Ellerslie course is being galloped over to a fair extent in view of the North Shore meeting, and during the last three mornings a good amount of work has been registered. On Monday morning Chester and Catchem were associated in r two good strong rounds of work, the finish home being made rather lively. Royal Rose and Grenadier were put round on the grass at half-pace, the finish being at three-quarter. Marechai Neil and Ballhooley were schooled over the sticks, and the former showed up in very dismal colours. He ran off four times, and was taken back to his box and then brought back and worked twice on the tan, the hurdle in front of the stand being negotiated safely each time. Webley was given twice slow on the grass, and St. Patrick did two rounds at half-pace. Queen of Sheba was shown the way over the hurdles and fell, and Derby did good schooling work. On Tuesday morning Swiftsure ran three-quarters of a mile on course proper outside the hurdles in lmin 30sec, and Fishmonger, Belmont, and Coalscuttle were schooled over the hurdles. The first two shaped very well and are evidently in good fettle, but Coalscuttle baulked and fell three times. Royal Rose and Grenadier went twice round the course proper at a good half pace, and Chester and Catch’em were worked on the grass, three rounds being covered at a good working gallop. Chester moved very freely. Fright was schooled oyer the small sticks and baulked once.
