WELLINGTON JOTTINGS.

WELLINGTON ROWING REGATTA. The Wellington Rowing Regatta is now a thing of the past, but those directly interested in it bear pleasant recollections of its successful termination. At the commencement of the proceedings the water was moderately calm, but towards thn conclusion the sea became choppy, milch to the discomfort of the competing oarsmen. The result of the sculling race was no surprise, although many anticipated better form being shown by M. Keefe,* pfAuckland, who won the sculling champibnship at Pictbn the previous day. Hume, on the other hand, has been displaying excellent style and pace. So therefore the victory is a well earned one, as he was most consistent in his training. His hge is about' *22., ,s Kbefe 'entered a protest'bn t'hb' gfouhd of the alleged interference by the umpire’s boat, which, he said, caused him inconvenience through receiving the backwash. This complaint is feasible enough. Any acquatic person knows what' a 'serious obstacle towards success lies in the interception' of a racing skiff byasfea'mer’sPjobble. The battle for the premiership in .the Senior .Fours was’ brilliantly !contested, and 'realised what sports appreciate—a'clbsei 1 finish. Seven representative crews-'is a'big field, but; ( ar capital start was effected. The Lyttelton hnd Canterbury Senior Fours had ari 1 exci tin ggoforthe last quarter of the course, the ’ Canterbury's gaining the supremacy by J diily H&lf filfeiigth.
