The race for the Nursery Handicap at the Spring Meeting of the South Australian Jockey Club should furnish an interesting lesson to jockeys who make a practice of trying little dodges to gain more than a fair start. After the field had been at sixes and sevens for fully twenty minutes owing to the manoeuvring of some of the riders, the starter, Mr McDonald, was compelled to send the horses away to a bad start. To show the riders that continued attempts to obtain flying starts would not be permitted he suspended Quinn, Contact’s jockey, for six months. Fagg, who rode Trenora, had to stand down for four months, and three others were fined heavily. Mr Alison’s horse Warrior, who has been leased by Mr Hammond, of Mangere, left Lake Takapun forhas new quarters on Monday last.
