A number of sporting men saw the Auckland contingent of racers safe off on their journey to Hawkes’ Bay by the Tarawera on Friday last. The horses, St. Hippo, Miss Letty, Stanmoor, Forme, Satyr, and Pegasus, were snugly bertned in the forehold, and appeared quite at home in their new surroundings. Advice of their safe arrival at their destination reached us on Monday last. Owing to financial reasons, the trustees of the North Canterbury Jockey Club’s Rangiora course will shortly be obliged to realise upon the property. Every effort to get the Rangiora people to support the popular sport appears to have failed, and accordingly the trustees find they have no other alternative to free the club of its liabilities but to sell the course. I have received the Rules of Racing as adopted by the Metropolitan Clubs in New Zealand from Mr F. D. Luckie. After the numerous alterations which have been made of late, it is a treat to find that the Rules have at last been printed. Mr Stead’s string of horses—lch Dien, Melinite, and Stepniak—which competed at the recent A.J.C. Spring Meeting, left Sydney for Wellington by the s;s. Wakatipu on Sunday last.
