In the year 1869, a Vigilance Committee was formed for reform and better drainage of the city. I was nominated by this Committee, and returned by a large majority. The City Board had, however, no real power to • deal with the trouble, and adopted the Municipal Corporation Act in 1871. I was therefore one of the first Councillors for Auckland, with a record of 2 years and 7 months at that time, and 7 years and 5 months, my present term, in all 10 years. I thank Mr Kidd for his respect for my long service. CHARLES ATKIN. JUST PUBLISHED, —THE—NEW ZEALAND CENTAUR, And can now be obtained from all Booksellers and Dealers. PRICE - - ONE SHILLING.
