The proprietor of the Occidental Hotel, Vulcan Lane, Mr J. W. Russell, the other day showed me his billiard table, which has recently been recovered, and is now as good as new, in fact it would take a lot of beating anywhere. It is real spick and span, and as the room is well lighted, a large number of players are to be found there daily. E. T. Russell still attends to their requirements with courtesy and civility.

A curious thing happened in the last race at the Canterbury Trotting Club’s Meeting on the 11th inst. In the Final Handicap Trot (in harness) Kentucky just beat Speculation, neither having a ticket invested on them in the machine, though the total investments amounted to £144, and the starters numbered 16.
