THE NEW ZEALAND TEAM IN AUSTRALIA.

[by CABLE. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.J Sydney, July 24. The New Zealand footballers played their return match with the Queensland ‘ reps’ at Brisbane on Saturday. The New Zealand team was constituted thus: —Fullback, Wilson; three-quarters, Gage, Wynyard and Jervis ; halves, Butland and Batley; forwards, McKenzie, Mclntosh, Ellison, Lambie, Cockroft, Stuart, Hiroa, Speight and Murray. After a lot of very fast play in which the visitors menaced the local men’s goal very strongly on more than one occasion, Wynyard scored a try for New Zealand, from which Ellison placed a goal. Soon afterwards from a pass out from Ellison to Bayly, the latter seeing no chance of scoring handed the ball to Jervis, who potted a J goal. Scrums followed, and Jervis forced Queensland down with a long kick. A few minutes later Macintosh marked at the half-way flag, but Wilson failed to place a goal. Wynyard was not long before he ran in at the corner, but Wilson failed in his kick at goal. For the rest of the first spell the ball was in the Queensland quarters. When the second spell started Yaldwyn made a strong run and nearly got over the New Zealand line. Ellison passed to Wynyard, who secured a try from which Ellison placed a goal. Cockroft scored a try soon after which Ellison failed to convert, but he made amends soon afterwards by getting a goal from a try by Butland. Later on Ellison kicked another goal, and Wilson yet another, and the game ended —New Zealand 35, Queensland o.

The Auckland Coursing dub have lost no time after their recent successful meeting in putting forward a fresh bill of fare, which is advertised in another column. The dates selected are Wednesday and Saturday, August 23 and 26, when there will be decided a Champion Stake and a Maiden Stake. The former is for an unlimited number of all-aged dogs at £4 each, £2 on nomination, and the balance on the night of the draw. The Maiden Stakes is certain, from the attractiveness of its conditions, to attract a very large entry, for as it is open only to dogs that have never received £2 Lss

or over in one stake it will bring in a lot of the moderates who would be out of place in a Champion. The nomination fee is £l, and the balance, £l, is due on the night of the draw. Monday, August 14, is the night of nomination, the draw taking place a week later. The club have received a further batch of strong hares from Canterbury, and from that province and Otago the secretary has received intimation that we may expect some Southern coursers up for the meeting. Owing to the Poultry Show operations at Mr Farringdon’s Columbia Kink were suspended at the end of last week, but they were merrily resumed on Monday, when the floor was well patronised. On Tuesday a one-mile amateur handicap was commenced, the first heat resulting in a win for Diamond, with B. Baynes second. The next heat went to W. Ford, with F. 0. Raynes second. The final was run off last night after we had gone to press, so we are unable to give the result.
