The stakes paid over the V.R.C. Autumn Meeting show Mr J. B. Clark at the head of the winning owners, with Mr Purches a close second. ,£3,827 is the size of the cheque Camoola, Projectile, and Autonomy annexed, while Portsea and Patron were .£668 behind the Sydney nags. Mr Davis and Mr Gollan won £"2,191 and £2,120 respectively, while Mr S. M. Wilson, with £990, headed the owners who won without getting into four figures. The failure of the Trentons to win a race was one of the features of the meeting, and not a single Robinson Crusoe was successful. The defunct Chester, on the other hand, had a brilliant meeting, and Nordenfeldt also did well, Culloden, Sternchaser, Cooya, and Moth all being by him. Neckersgat had a splendid representative in Portsea, and Richmond had two winners in The Admiral and Jonathan. The ancient Grandmaster had Bungebah and Swordbearer to keep his name before the public, while Newminster claimed a pair of winners in Newman and Beverley. Segenhoe, Malua, Glorious, Fryingpan, Leolinus, Grand Flaneur, Albury, Bras de Fer, and The Professor each had a representative equal to earning winning brackets. The winter racing season in India came to an end on January 28 with the third extra meeting in Calcutta. The season was one of the most successful ever experienced. The South Ans-tralian-bred mare Calliope, by Terlinga from Catalpa, won the Hurdle Race, beating a hot favourite in the English representative Ratifia, and the Australians Albania, Lady Flo, Judge, Belle Swiveller, and the old New Zealander Tupaki. The Maharajah of Cooch Behar won the Fitzmaurice Stakes with the English mare Vicenza, by Beaudesert from Venice, who had behind her Shur, Simpleton,- Ivo, Miladi, Query, and the New Zealand-bred Escapade; but Shur, who is a cast-off of Mr S. Miller’s, by Boolka, caused great consternation by carrying off the Bettah Cup. Good Hope was the 2to 1 on. Shur was not mentioned in the, bet-, ting. ■ Besides Good Hope, the beaten division consisted of Ringmaster, Simpleton, Miladi, Ernest, and Whimbrel, once owned by Mr D. O’Brien. Shur paid a totalisator dividend at the rate of 36 to 1. Odds of 2to I were laid on the English horse Kirkstall for the Welter Cup, but he succumbed to the Australian representative Kite High. At the Mozufferpore races, Wabba, by Dolon, was successful in the Durbungah Cup; and Pretender, by Vasco di Gama, who won several races in New Zealand, won another race.
