A.R.C. Autumn Meeting.

Mr. Evett last night issued the appended handicaps for Saturday’s racing at this meeting :—

For the Tradesmen’s Handicap, which commences the bill of fare, Quadrant is in the post of honour with 8.11. The distance is perhaps a bit more than he likes, and though he is not overburdened I shall be quite prepared to see him re-

served for the Eden Handicap later on. I think with 51b in her favour Tit will beat Lottie, and of the quartette below her I only fancy Marguerite. If sent, I think Tit will win, unless Quadrant be stripped in preference to reserving him till later ° n The Hurdles Handicap starts with Mangere.and at 12.3 he is given a big show. It is interesting to note how Mr Evett handicaps him and Satyr, who has it. 11, but the latter will not be here. Marechai Neil, 10.6, reads well, but not as well as Belmont, who at 10.2 is, I think, the pick of the handicap. Mr Evett has been a bit more kind than I think he should have been to both Tattler and Union Jack, but I shall take Belmont to win, with Marechai Neil next. The Eden Handicap of 7 furlongs, naturally finds Quadrant in the post of honor, with 9.3, not an ounce too much for him at the distance, and if he be started in preference to the Tradesmen’s, I look to him to win. Mr Evett has not been unmindful of The Baron’s earlier performances, and has given him 8.10. The distance is well within the compass of the. Papakura representative, but he will require to be delivered fit at the post. He has been under a cloud for some time now, it must be remembered. St. Katherine, 8.10, is in her proper place, but I don’t suppose she will run. St. Clements is well handicapped at 8.7, but I think a furlong or two less would suit him better. I would much sooner stand by Krina, 8.7, but her Starting is a matter of doubt. I don’t regard Lottie as at all well used at 8.3, nor is Pinfire, 7.12, to my liking; but I have a great fancy for Tit at 7.11. Of the lower weights Waltzer and Warrior are my picks, and all in at the present weights I take Quadrant and Tit to fight it out between them, with Warrior for a good outside chance. Of the very moderate five engaged in the Selling Handicap—a race which may be well be excised in future—Stamford and Jessica read best, the latter for choice. Royal Rose at 8.10 tops the list of the eight two-year-olds in the Onslow Handicap, and I think he is quite competent to give the weight asked of him to all his opponents. I hardly see on. what reckoning Mr Evett makes Annabel only 51b his inferior. If Royal Rose is beaten I think Captivity will prove his conqueror. Sir Launcelot.
