WANGANUI JOCKEY CLUB’S AUTUMN MEETING.

The Wanganui Jockey Club will commence their Autumn Meeting on Thursday next, the 9th inst., and continue it on the following day. On the first day the First Handicap Hurdle Race of ioosovs, about two miles and a distance, will open the ball. This has seven acceptors, with Jenny at 11.0 in the post of honor. The picks of the basket, to tny mind, are Paradox, 10.10, and Gondolier, 10.9, and between this pair I expect the issue to lie. My vote goes for Gondolier. A dozen have made the final payment for the Wanganui Cup of 500S0VS, one mile and three quarters, the latest defections being Prestige, Revolution and Krina. With the Manawatu running not before me I am naturally somewhat in a quandary as to what to recommend as a good thing. Of the top weights I certainly prefer Rosefeldt, 7.12, and, even with her 51b penalty, which brings her impost up to 7.11, I have a sneaking regard for St. Katherine. Of those below her the only ones that arrest my attention are Awarua Rose and Musket. Wanganui has before- now proved a happy hunting ground for Awarua Rose, and it is evident that under E. Cutts’ careful charge he is running into form. Musket, too, showed a bit of form at the Taranaki meeting, and he, Awarua Rose, St. Katherine and Rosefeldt, are the quartette I think will fight it out. I like Rosefeldt best. The Wanganui Two-year-old Stakes of 15OSOVS, 6 furlongs, will, as I mentioned last week, partake somewhat of an interprovincial character, presuming, of course, that all the acceptors come to the post, for Strowan and Busybody repre-

sent Canterbury; Noyade, Zanella, Mars and St. Cecilia Hawke’s Bay ; and Eve Auckland. I don’t see anything to beat Strowan unless it be Eve, who, however, I fancy, has had a bit too much of it lately If she be in a fit state after her exertions at New Plymouth she should make a good fight of it with Strowan, and probably Noyade will turn out to .be the best of the others. There are only half a dozen left in the Welter Handicap of 6osovs, one mile. Stranger is top weight at 9.8, and I think he will win, though Musket, 9.0, will take some beating if he does not have a severe race out of him in the Cup. The Flying Handicap of ioosovs, six furlongs, will take some picking should the 14 that accepted go to the post. But I hardly think more than seven will face the flag. As Krina has been taken out of the Cup I presume this race will be her “ dart,” and if so she will be extremely hard to beat with 8.0 up. Were it not that Eve will have a race out of her in the Two-year-old Stakes I should have a great respect for her chance. It is to Ua, 7.7, andNgatioma, 7.5, though, that I look to take Krina’s number down, and I shall tip Ua to do the trick.
