The committee of the Auckland Bowling Club at a meeting held by them on Saturday, appointed Messrs. Kingswell, Stewart, Frater and Oliphant as slips for the forthcoming bowling tournament at New Year’s time. The cricket matches fixed to be played in the Domain last Saturday were deferred till Saturday next, owing to heavy rain rendering the ground unfit for playing on. Auckland 11. met North Shore on the latter club’s ground. Auckland batted first, and knocked up 16 for 8 wickets, and it must in fairness to them be mentioned that they were three men short. Their highest scorer was Greville with 8. The bowling of Wynyard and Coupland was very destructive. North Shore had made 71 for 9 wickets when time was called. In connection with the rumoured barrenness of the quadruple English Waterloo Cup winner Fullerton, it appears that he has served over a score of bitches, not one of which produced a puppy. Not only this, but his sister, Jupon Vert, has been put to four different stud dogs, and has failed to breed. Fullerton’s failure is rather rough on the owners of bitches that had been sent to him at a 40-guinea fee each, but Colonel North has tried to make up for that untoward state of affairs by giving every such owner two subscriptions to Young Fullerton, brother to the crack, and a very smart dog, though of course nothing like so good as the champion. As for Fullerton himself he will now, in all probability, be put in training for another Waterloo Cup. In reply to a fresh challenge of Ted Pritchard, Jim Hall offers to give him another trial within ’four months for aside at either 11.4 or 1 1 .0 A meeting was held at the British Hotel on Saturday night for the purpose of forming a veteran cricket club in Auckland. Mr. G. Lankham was voted to the chair. The following officers were elected : —President, Mr. James Russell; vice-presidents, Captains Lambert and Brackenbury, Messrs. R. Young, T. J. Masefield, George Schwartz Kissling, Edwin Hesketh, Alfred Whitaker, W. L. Rees, M.H.R., George Lankham, W. Outhwaite, and J. D. Stead ; hon. secretary, Mr. George Neild ; treasurer, Mr. Charles Hesketh ; committee of management, Messrs. Mumford, Robertson, Cayforth, and Bruford. The committee will prepare a code of rules and report to an adjourned meeting to be held next Saturday. All aquatic and lawn tennis fixtures in Auckland had to be adjourned on Saturday owing to the bad state of the weather. W. J. S. Hayward, of the Pioneer Bicycle Club, on October 31st, at Lancaster Park, Christchurch, lowered the New Zealand five-mile record from 14mm 48sec (by W. L. Kerr) to i4min 7 i-sth sec. The track was in fair condition, but there was a stiff easterly wind blowing. At a meeting of the Pioneer (Christchurch) Bicycle Club last week a letter was read from Mr. Lewis Stroud, of London, one of the fastest riders in England for short distances (in answer to a communication from the-Club), stating that he should much like to be able to come out and race at the Club’s meeting on Boxing Day and December 27th, but business engagements would prevent him from paying the colonies a visit this season.

On September 15th Zimmerman rode a quarter mile (flying start) in 27sec — world’s record. He rode half a mile (from a standing start) in imin 1 4-sth sec —world’s record ; and three-quarters of a mile in imin 46sec —American record. In the mile open competition he did 2min igsec; and the two miles in 4min 37 2-sth sec —world’s record. T.,e above entries show a slight increase on those of last year, albeit they are confined to local talent. It was rumoured at the end of last week that the champion hurdler Batger was leaving here for America, but at the last moment he decided not to go, and it is to be hoped that he may be induced to give an exhibition of his phenomenal powers at the A.A.C.’s gathering on the 19th inst. The handicaps for the meeting are due to-day and acceptances close at the British Hotel on Saturday night at 9 p.m. At a meeting of the Auckland Yacht Club, held on Monday night, Messrs. T. Henderson, J. B. Graham and J. Wiseman were appointed delegates to the New Zealand Yachting Association. The following officers were nominated for election at the annual meeting of the N.Z. Yachting Association : —President, Mr. Rich, of Lyttleton ; vice-presidents, Mr. T. Henderson, of Auckland, and Mr. Levine, of Wellington. It was reported to the meeting that His Excellency the Governor had accepted the club’s invitation for a cruise in Auckland harbour, and had intimated that November 23 would suit him. It was resolved to send a reply to the effect that although the date named would be convenient to the club the members were of opinion that there would be a larger muster of yachts either on November 26, November 30, or December 3. Members were appointed as follows to act on the Auckland Regatta Club’s committee: — Messrs. A. J. S. Gibbs, T. Henderson, R. S. Reynolds, H. Horton, G. Cozens, and J. A. Pond. It was decided to present a testimonial to Mr. W. A. MacCormick for the efficient and energetic manner in which he has filled the position of honorary secretary to the club during the past two years. The following new members were elected: -—Messrs. C. T. Thomas, T. J. Wells, Thomas Cashen, G. K. Webb, G. 8. Kissling, Robinson, Dr. Roberts, and Professor Carrollo.
