Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club.

The annual meeting of the above club was held last night at the British Hotel, when there was a good attendance of members.

The committee’s annual report submitted to the meeting read as follows : — “ Your committee have much pleasure in presenting the annual report and balance-sheet for the year ended 31st August, 1892. Three meetings have been held during the season, a benefit meeting for the purpose of raising funds to assist the Colonial Team to visit England, and the usual Spring and Autumn meetings. The Spring Meeting was highly satisfactory in every way, and was particularly distinguished by Mr. A. F. Burton breaking the Australian record for the mile walk. The time, 6min. 53 2-ssec., was gsec. better than previous records. Unfortunately only two time-keepers certified to the time, and as the Association rules prescribe for three timekeepers, the record could not be allowed by the Association. The benefit meeting was not successful, the attendance being limited, and little interest taken in it either by the members of the club or by the general public. The Autumn Meeting, which promised to be one of the most brilliant ever held by the club, the colonial representatives being present, was spoilt by unfavourable weather. As illustrating how dependant the Club is for a financial success in being favoured by fine weather, we may remark that whilst the Spring Meeting showed a profit of £54 ios. 4d., the Autumn Meeting suffered a loss of £7 os. 6d. Your Committee, in referring to the expenditure of the Club, would point out the exceptionally heavy items, some of which will not appear again. The balancesheet shows the expenses of our members at the Championship Meeting to be £62 Bs. 6d. ; donation to the English team, £2O; entertaining ditto, £l3 4s. gd.; legal expenses, £b 6s. The amount of prize money aggregates no less a sum than £227 Bs. 6d. The Club was represented at the Championship Meeting by Messrs. Burton, Upfill, Hutchinson, Buchanan, Farquhar, and Hackett; Mr. Burton winning the mile walk and getting second in the three mile ditto ; Mr. Upfill winning the long jump and second in the pole ditto. The number of members on the roll is 159, exclusive of the honorary officers. The thanks of the Club are due and hereby tendered to Messrs. Croxton, Tonks, and Ridings for the valuable services rendered to the Club as delegates to the Association, and also to the gentlemen who represent the Club on the ’Cyclists’ Alliance. Your Committee would urge on the members the necessity of exercising economy during the next season, in order that the funds may be increased to at least The balance-sheet showed the following — Receipts — Deposit Bank N.Z. matured £lOO ; interest on same £4. ios; on Benefit Meeting £7 3s ; profit on Spring Meeting, £54 ios 4d ; Donation, £ 1 is; Members’ Subscriptions, £74 9s 6d (123 at ios 6d, and 36 at 5s 6d) ; total, £241 13s lod.
