Poverty Bay Turf Club.
The annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Turf Club was held on August 12th. The report submitted read thus : — “ The Committee of the Poverty Bay Turf Club herewith present the annual statement of accounts and balance-sheet to qth August, 1892. Since our last annual meeting of members the Club have opened their new racecourse at Makaraka, and so satisfactory have been the returns for the past season’s racing (the Spring Meeting showing a balance of 14s. gd., and the Annual 13s. 6d.) ( that the guarantee of overdraft to the Union Bank has been wiped off, ios. represents our fixed deposit account, and the cash balance with contra and other accounts, shows £33 l 3 s - 9d- The liabilities are ios. debentures, the interest on which amount, now due, has been provided for and will be paid on application to the Hon Treasurer. The accounts show that the outlay on the new course amounts to l4s. sd. Of this 14s. sd. has been written down, leaving the assets standing at The lease of the property has now twelve years to run, at the low rental of £32 ios. per annum. During the past season the Agricultural and Pastoral Society have held their show, and the Waerenga-a-hika and Native Jockey Clubs their race meetings on the Club’s ground. The officials of the Club have found the new buildings convenient and easily worked, while visitors to the races have been much pleased with the accommodation provided for them, and the picturesque surroundings of the racecourse. Your Committee beg to thank Messrs. Parker, Winter, and Campbell, for their services as honorary secretary, starter, and judge. According to the rules Messrs. Dobbie, Wethered, and Parker retire by rotation from the committee, but are eligible for re-election.” The report and balancesheet were adopted. Messrs. Dobbie, Wethered, and Parker were re-elected members of the committee.
