The Hon. J. D. Ormond the other week enriched the blood stock of New Zealand by the acquisition of Dreadnought, and now he has made a further purchase that shows that he is sparing neither trouble nor expense in bringing to this colony strains of blood that are likely to nick with his newly-purchased stud horse, and that are likely to introduce also most desirable strains of blood. The hon. gentleman s latest purchase to which we allude is the brood miuje Radiant, whom si on e r p 1
Touchstone out of Emma. Dreadnought’s dam Trafalgar is by Blair Athol out of Musket’s sister Mosquito. We do not think w<: need go further to show breeding students what a judicious selection the Hon. J. D. Ormond’s commissioner has made in purchasing Radiant. Radiant is only a six-year-oldmare, and was when Mr Ormond bought her in foal to Lord Bundoora(a son of the Marquis and the old New Zealander Lurline) and as there are no more returns to her credit in the last volume of the Australian Stud Book we presume that her progeny, if any, by Lord Bundoora will be the issue of her first season of stud life. If she has living progeny by Lord Bundoora her purchase money of iosgs will make her cheaper than she now seems —and at the price Mr. Ormond paid for her we cannot look upon her but as a bargain.
