In Auckland betting circles the principal interest of backers has been centred during the last few days on the C.J.C. Grand National Meeting, and a good deal of double event betting has been indulged in. The favourite selection with backers has been Whalebone for the Steeples and Captain Webb for the Hurdles, and at 50 to 3 that combination has been well backed. Norton and Captain Webb have also received substantial support coupled, at 100 to 5, and other combinations with Whalebone and Norton for the Steeplechase have been well backed. For the New Zealand Cup North Atlantic has been further befriended, and is now a firm first favourite at 100 to 10. Prime Warden has also been backed at 100 to 9, and Clanranald at 100 to 8.
