WAIPAWA COUNTY RACING CLUB

(from OUR NAPIER CORRESPONDENT.) The annual meeting of the Waipawa Racing Club was held in Mr. D. Maroney’s hotel. The committee in presenting their report for the past year, congratulated members on the continued prosperity of the club, and upon the successful result of the year’s operations. At no previous period of the club’s existence had a more satisfactory report been placed before the annual meeting. The two race meetings held during the season were of a most gratifying nature, both 1 and financial, point of view, the qualPt£ and nuirtfifftf horses competing being in advance of any previous gathering held by the club, while the increased attendance of the public proved that the club gained ground as a popular institution. The club started the year with a credit balance of £351, and during the year just closed £94 had been expended from revenue on permanent improvements. With the cash balance now in hand, the operations of the past year had resulted in a profit of £427. The items of revenue which showed the most satisfactory increases were the entries, gate money, and commission from the totalisator. The credit balance at the bank at present (current account) was £"284, while £3OO was at fixed deposit. It was intended to top dress the track before next spring, have the saddling paddock enlarged, and erect some additional loose boxes. The club’s best thanks were due to Messrs. White, Johnson and Sabin, judge, starter, and clerk of the scales respectively, and to the district manager of railways for his uniform courtesy in connection with the trains running on race days. The report was adopted. The following officers were re-elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr. W. White; vice-president, Mr. S. McGreevy ; treasurer, Captain Howard; committee, Messrs. J. Pettit, Ben. B. Johnson, D. Moroney, W. T. Sabin, E. Watts, A. Scrimegeour, D. Mundell, J. Harker and J. Merryless. Seventeen new members were elected. A bonus of £1 o was voted Mr. Ben. B. Johnson in recognition of his services as starter. The following programme was drawn up for the Summer Meeting:—Trial Handicap, about i-| miles, 40 sovs ; Hack Handicap, 1 mile, 40 sovs. ; W.C. R.C. Handicap, miles, 150 sovs. ; Handicap Hurdles, 2 miles ; 80 sovs. ; Hack Flying, 7 furlongs, 30 sovs.; Ladies’ Purse of 60 sovs., miles ; Open Flying, 50 sovs.; total £450.
