In another column of this issue will be found reports of the annual meetings of several important racing clubs. Last week we gave publicity to the reports of the Auckland Racing Club, Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club, and Wanganui Jockey Club —all three Metropolitan Clubs —and in each case it is gratifying to observe that they have not suffered a loss in the aggregate over their season’s racing. The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club have intimated their intention of substantially increasing the stakes for the season of 1892-93; the Auckland Racing Club’s bill of fare will be substantially the same as" that of last season ; and though we have not yet heard from our Wanganui friends we doubt not that they will keep up to their previous high standard in the way of stakes. The Napier Park Racing Club,
which in the Hawke’s Bay towards the Metropolitan in th®H®| proportions as the Victoria Club does to the Victoria RacinW have already decided (as will be se™|||| the report of their proceedings publisn® in another column) on material increases to their stakes ; and other clubs under the Metropolitan jurisdiction are in such a healthy financial condition that they may reasonably be expected to deal with horseowners in a more liberal spirit than some of them have evinced in the past. Altogether, we have no reason to be anything but sanguine about the cheerfulness of the prospect for the New Zealand racing season of 1892-93.
