The Rangitikei Racing Club held their annual meeting on the Ist and second January, when some good racing was witnessed by those present. The first day it rained heavy, but on the second a better day could not have been wished for. was put through the machines, which were worked by Hill and Poole. The following are the results of the different events. Maiden Plate —Cordelia, yst jib, Reed, i ; Seal Brown/yst ijlb, McKeague, 2; Fortune, 7st 121 b, Knight, 3 ; Musket also started. Won easily. Time, 2min 24sec. Dividend, £1 13s. Handicap Hurdles — Reer, lost, Retter, 1 ; Hiamoe, gst 41b, Morris, 2 ; Empire also started, but Reer won by three lengths. Time, 4min 23sec, Dividend, £3 3s. Hack Hurdles— Commotion, list, Higgins, 1; Corsair, gst 71b, Anderson, 2; Glenelg, lost i2lb, Scott, 3; Ridge also ran. Won by a length. Time, 3min Bsec. Dividend, £2 ss. Rangitikei Handicap —Foxton, Bst 31b, McCormick, 1 ; Cordelia, 6st lolb, Reed, 2 ; Torpedo, 7st gib, 3 ; Weka, 7st 31b, also ran. Weka led for one and a quarter miles, when Cordelia went to the front, with Torpedo close handy. Cordelia led into the straight) when McCormick called upon Foxton, who responded gamely, and won a good
race by a length. McCormick was loudly praised for his riding in this event, and to his horsemanship may be credited the win of his mount. The race for the first half of the journey was a slow canter, when Cordelia rushed to the front and led into the straight, but was collared at the distance post by Torpedo, who won, with a little to spare, by a length.
