CRICKET. Seniors. Gordon winning the toss sent United into the field. H. B. Lusk and Norman Williams facing the bowling of Hawkins and Stemson, who quickly disposed to both for the small total of 8, which Moresby did not increase, as Hawkins had his turn, and bowled him for a duck.* A good stand was then made by Fowke and Goulstone, who by good and careful cricket raised the score to 43, when the latter, having made a good 22. fell a victim to Stem, son, who was bowling splendidly on a dangerously bumpy wicket. Bob Lusk filled the breech, but after scoring a single succumbed to a good one from Stemson. Clayton stayed awhile with Fowke, 1 but after collecting t seven, which included a good on drive, was ■ also beaten by the irresistible fast bowler. Trevor Gould, although in poor health and unable to run his. hits out, batted in safe and pretty, style for 9, but was finely caught by Bates off Stemson. The telegraph showed 7 Wickets for 83, and things looked desperately bad for Gordon when T. Ball joined his captain, and made the stand of the innings. The pair, batting steadily and well raised, the total to 112, when Fowke’s wicket fell to Stemson for a plucky and invaluable 44. Ansenrie joined 8411, but soon lost his partner, who was caught off C. McCormick foi an excellent 23. H. Gould whipped in. but only had a ball or two, as Ansenne had to cry peccavi to one of Stemson’s accurate deliveries after making a useful 9. The innings closed for the rather poor total of 126. United, after rolling the wicket, sent in MacCormick and W. Harvie, who played out the few minutes remaining before the bell rang, and put on 7 runs. Stemson secured eight wickets for 54 runs. United should get the required runs when the match is resumed after the holiday spell, but it is quite possible that the finish may be a close and interesting one. Parnell v. St. Mary’s-Onslow.—Parnell won the toss, and batted first, reaching the fair score-of 130, to which Gardiner (31), Young (26), Mills (19), including some pretty cuts, and Pritchard (16), contributed double figures. Rowe bowled best for the Hyphens, sending down some really hot ones. When the bell rang the Hyphens had four wickets down for 41. Lawson was well on the spot with the ball. Juniors. Auckland IL v. Parnell ll.—Auckland batting fitst put together the respectable total of 94, A. Seccombe 29 —a good free innings—and Maclaurin a neat it, making double figures. Mills bowled well for Parnell, capturing six wickets. Parnell in their effort could only reach 67, or 27 behind. A. Brown, with 38, was the only double figure, and batted well for his runs. Goudin bowled with signal success, getting seven wickets for 42, and Seccombe, with two for 20, backed him up well. • • . Wanderers v. Grammar school could only make 48 in their first venture, Pursley (15) being the solitary double figure. Wanderers did slightly better, reaching 64. Rowe (14), Taylor (14), and Clarke (10 not out), ■when the last wicket fell. The school did much better in the second innings, and have 59 for four wickets. The finish of this match may be an exciting one. Gordon 11. v. Victoria. —This fixture was commenced on Saturday by the Victorias going in; to the wickets first, but the bowling of Kemjerdine and Kissling, backed up by good fielding, got all out for the moderate score of 67 runs, of which Lavers made 18 and Corbett 17. Kenderdine secured five wickets for 22 runs, and Kissling four for 20. Mackie made two very pretty catches. Gotterill and Gilfillan' started batting for the Gordons, and were busy at once, but after making 8 the former was caught at very deep cover off a misshit. Mowbray soon knocked up 33, when Lavers bowled him, and the third wicket fell for 72. Lavers, who was bowling well, secured " eight wickets for 37, and thus curtailed what promised at one time to be a very large score'.

Gilfillan made 34, and Cautley 17, and the last wicket fell for 128. At 6.1 5 the Victorias commenced their second innings, but at call of time four wickets had fallen for 7 runs ; Mackie and Hesketh each by a good catch disposing of two of the wickets. Star v. St. Mary’s-Onslow II. —The Hyphens in their venture made the good score of 155, to which Pillinger and Wilkinson, with 42 each, Stichbury (22), and Andrew (11), contributed most. Star have lost three wickets for 47, Leahy (23) and Dunn (15) getting into double figures. Star may yet make a fight for the match.
