ONSLOW TROTTING CLUB.
A meeting of the stewards and committee of the Onslow Trotting Club was held at the Edinburgh Castle Hotel on Wednesday evening the 25th ultimo, there being present Messrs. M. S. Laurie (in the chair), Quinlan, Morley, T. D. Halstead, Menzies, A. H. Trubshaw, Brown, Wilkinson, and E. P. Goldsbro’, secretary. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, Mr. Goldsbro’ read his balance-sheet for their inaugural meeting, which, although it showed a small debit balance, was regarded as highly satisfactory considering the opposition they had to contend with and the obstacles that had been thrown in their way from the start. The deficiency is fully covered by funds in hands from members’ subscriptions, etc., but no provision has been made for the secretary’s salary. Votes of thanks were unanimously passed to the following gentlemen :—To Mr. James Hayr for his kindness in coming forward to act as judge; to Mr. Kidd, of Patterson’s tramways, for his able assistance ; to Mr. W. L. Lockhart, secretary of the Otahuhu Trotting Club, for coming "forward voluntarily to assist the secretary ; to Mr. H. H. Hayr for his services as timekeeper, Mr. Bartlett, the official timekeeper, being absent at the Domain sports, using Mcßride’s patent electric chronometer; to the proprietors of the Sporting Review for the use of their office; to Mr. W. Percival for his kindness in offering the loan of his numbered saddle cloths and bell when he found the secretary could not obtain others ; and to Mr. E. P. Goldsbro’, secretary, for the able and energetic manner in which he has up to the present time carried out his duties. , The secretary was instructed to pay the Government totalisator tax of £2O 2s 2d from the funds in hand. On the motion of Mr. Halstead, settling night was fixed for Monday, 30th inst., at eight p.m., at the Edinburgh Castle Hotel. On the motion of Mr. A. H. Trubshaw, seconded by Mr. P. Quinlan, it was resolved, “ That in future arrangements be made with the totalisator proprietors to divide equally the extra money up to one shilling.” Mr. T. D. Halstead proposed, and Mr. P. Quinlan seconded, “ That the 23rd of January be fixed upon as the date for the summer meeting.” Carried. The advisability of inaugurating wheel races was fully discussed and approved of, and it was announced that the tramway people would guarantee to open up the wall into the other paddock at Potter’s and lay down a course. The following programme was drawn up for the summer meeting, and the secretary was instructed to submit it to the Auckland Trotting Club forthwith : — Handicap Maiden Trot of 35SOVS, second horse ssovs from the stakes ; two miles. Handicap Maiden Pony Race (for 14..1 ponies) of i2sovs, 2sovs out of stakes for second pony; six furlongs (amateur riders). Onslow Trot of ioosovs, ipsovs to second, and ssovs to third horse out of stakes ; three miles. Pony Steeplechase (14.2 ponies) of 25SOVS, ssovs to second pony out of stakes; two and a-half miles. Wheel Race (trotting in harness), three miles ; Ist horse iosovs and new sulky, 2nd horse ssovs ; Handicap Pony Race (14.2 ponies) of 25SOVS, ssovs from stake for second horse ; one mile. Selling Trot of zosovs, two and a-half miles. Pony Trot (14.1 ponies), 3osovs, ssovs from stake for second horse; two miles.
At noon to-morrow (Friday) Messrs. Digby Tonks & Co. sell the privileges for the Avondale Jockey Club’s race meeting, which takes place on the Avondale racecourse on Saturday, 12th inst., consisting of the gates, booths and cards.
