RE TROTTING RACES.

TO THE EDITOR. Sib,—l notice that the A.R.C., have resolved to not recognise trotting racing. Can you inform me whether a registered course would be disqualified if a trotting meeting were held on same ? It seems a superfluous question to ask, but the in and out actions of the A.R.C. with respect to pony and trotting meetings, have 1 been so extraordinary, that I should not be at all surprised if your reply will be—Yes, the course would be disqualified.—Yours truly, Trotter. [According to the wording of the resolution passed by the A.R.C. committee, trotting races, in our opinion, can be held on any course. —Ed. S.R.J

We regret to state that the jockey (Alex. Williams) who was riding Neck or Nothing in the Takapuna Steeplechase when he fell, is seriously ill, and is suffering from concussion of the brain. We understand that his mother has written to the Takapuna Jockey Club, complaining of the absence of a stretcher on the course that day. At the Takapuna Jockey Club’s Spring Meeting on Saturday, £2,527 was put through the inside totalisator, and £2,219 on the outside, making a total of £4,746. From this the Government tax of £7l 3s lOdis levied. At the same meeting last year £3,720 was the amount put through, or £1,026 less than the present spring meeting. The machines were admirably worked by Mr. W. Blomfield and his assistants, there being an entire absence of blocking throughout the day, and Mr. Alison (the Club’s treasurer) has called and congratulated Mr. Blomfield on his continued success. On this occasion a new 15 horse Hayes-Jenkins patent machine was used for the first time. The following are the numbers, makers’ names, and cost of the various totalisators now in Mr. W. ' Blomfield’s possession:—Two of Hayes-Jenkins 18 horse machines, cost £600; one Hayes 15 horse, Cost £235 ; three Heslops, cost £575 ; one Butlers, cost £135; one Schinolings, cost £75. Total, £1,620. The proper price of the last-named machine is £125 ; but the above is the actual cost to Mr. Blomfield.
