Athletics, Etc.

The A.A.A. Club’s Spring Meeting. ; ; Messrs. Cotter and Speight have had to tackle an arduous task in handicapping perhaps the biggest lot of entries the Club has ever received. Of course, this man or that mam or somebody else, according to the opinion of each several critic, lias been chucked in. That is the sort of thing handicappers expect, and have to endure. However, they may take consolation in the reflection that when several Certainties are picked for the same race the handicap cannot be so bad after all., Given a fine day next Saturday, a big crowd, good sport, and some close finishes will of a surety gratify' all who take an interest in athletics. • After carefully going through the acceptances we choose our fancies in the following order: — One Mile Walk—O’Dowd, 1 ; Burfoot, 2 ♦ Creamer, 3. H. Burton for a capsize. 120 Yards Hurdles —H. Martin Or T. Roberts. Mile Run —Speight (if he starts), 1 ; P. Lynch, 2 ; Musker, 3. Half-mile —Warner, 1 ; Croker, 2 ; Myers, 3. If Speight starts he should win. Quarter-mile —Hutchison, 1 ; Langsford, 2 ; Roberts, 3. 220 Yards —Buchanan, 1 ; Davis, 2 ; StevenSon, 3. 120 Yards—Buchanan, 1; Davis, 2; Morrison, 3. 100 Yards Championship — Buchanan or Laird. It will be a pleasure to many friends to see Bob Lusk’s genial face on the Domain ground once more, even though his well-known figure be absent from the running track.
