FOOTBALL.
FIXTUBES. Oct. 10—Wellington v. Auckland, at Potter’s Paddock—(Association game.) Otago beat Canterbury by 8 points to 3 last Saturday, after a good game. Canterbury made an exhibition of the Wellington team about a week previously, and the latter gave Otago “ all they knew” just before. There is no accounting for form in football sometimes. The Benefit Football Match being arranged for the widow and children of the late Mr. T. G. Sibbin is advertised in another column. The bill of fare is an exceptionally good one, and one that cannot be overlooked by all classes of the community, there should be a very large attendance at Potter’s on Saturday afternoon. No doubt a very large number of persons who prefer to visit the races that day, but sympathise with the object, will take their tickets for Potter’s to assist the same. The match, Wanderers v. the old Ponsonby Club, should be a very exciting contest, and the Parnell v. Suburbs should also be a good one. Too much praise cannot be awarded to Bandmaster A. Hunter and the members of the Artillery Band for coming forward with a gratuitous offer of their services for the occasion. The Wanderers 11. (Thames) will play the Native Rose at Potter’s on Saturday, and a good game is expected. It will be remembered the match between these Clubs played at the Thames resulted in the former winning by three to two.
The Tauranga people were greatly disappointed at the non-arrival of the Auckland team last Saturday, large numbers having come in from out-districts to witness the match.
