WANGANUI LETTER.

(from our own correspondent.)

Mr. A. McCormick has added another horse to his string, viz., Camlachie, by Bylong. It is his intention to get him ready for the hack meetings on the coast during the coming season, but I am afraid that Alick will not have much better luck with him than his predecessor had. The horse started in a good number of races last season, but did not succeed in scoring a win, although he showed a good turn of pace for half a mile. E. Barns, of the Newmarket stables, has also got another addition to his string, viz., Viola IL, the price paid for her being Providing she is well placed, she should not be long in returning her purchase money. Waihi, in charge of J. Belcher, left for Christchurch last Thursday, to. fulfil his engagements at the Grand National meeting. He is engaged in the G. N. Hurdles at the light impost of gst. He is a good jumper, but I am afraid that the distance will be too far for him. He will be ridden by that well-known cross-country rider W. Higgins, who, I hear, will also have the mount on Christmas in the G. N. Steeplechase. L. Holmes arrived from Nelson last week, bringing with him Phormium Tenax, by Korari. He has been purchased by a patron of Holmes’, the price paid being Holmes informs me that it is his intention to race him at some of the hack meetings at the beginning of the season. This is a great come down for a N.Z. Cup candidate, in which he was handicapped at Bst. ,

W. Burrell, late of Auckland (who will be remembered in your city as having looked after The Dauphin while he was in slings on account of his injured leg), was married last week to Maggie Harris, also of Auckland. It is to be hoped that the happy couple will have a prosperous time of it.
