Sporting Review. THURSDAY, AUGUST 13, 1891.

‘‘ Oileus,” in the Weekly Press, pußlish.es a number of most interesting tables for the racing season 1890-91. We are informed he has experienced great trouble in finding out the breeding of some of the horses — owners not knowing how their horses were bred, while others are running under wrong names and breeding. Many of the horses mentioned have won money in Australia, which is not included in his tables. The well-known horses that have not won £lOO during the season are: — liecluse (£l5), Darnley (£l9), Ahua (£9O 55.), Forester (£5), Orient (£B6 155.), and Daddy Longlegs (£B5 10s). Crackshot, 3yrs, by Nordenfeldt—Pungawerewere, heads the list with £1,410 15s. to his credit. After him comes Freedom, also a three year-old, by Captivator —Maid of Honour, with £1,292, or only £llB 15s, behind—and we all know how the late old John Smith would like to see his

favourite mare thus distinguish herself as a matron. She was purchased at the Sylvia Park sale by Mr. W. R. Wilson for 330 guineas. Florrie, who is close upon Freedom’s heels with £1,239 155., is. only a two-year-old, by Dan O’Brien’s favourite pair, Tasman —Rubina. Dan O’Brien has the honour of owning both Freedom and Florrie. Fourth on the list we have Wolverine, syrs, by Le Loup—Tangi 11., £1,17-6 25.; then we come to Medallion, 3yrs, a Nordenfeldt—Locket, with £1,165 14s. to his credit, followed by that faithful slave Dudu, 6yrs, Somnus—Fame, who claims £1,129 15s ; Cynisca, 4yrs, by Apremont —Nautilus. £1,027 15s; St. Andrew, 3yrs, by St. Leger —Scottish Lassie, assists to make a name for his sire, with £1,012 ss; and Strephcn closes the list of horses who have won over a thousand pounds during the past season. He was a four-year-old, by Ingomar—Elfin, and appropriated £1,006. This year he is looked upon by many turfites as the pick of the New Zealand Cup. Following the list down, the next that catches the eye of an Aucklander is Leorina, an aged mare by Leolinus—Yatterina, who repaid her owners with £728 3s. In making up this sum she broke the record for the number of races she started for in one season. Lebel, 2yrs, by Nordenfeldt—Pulchra, £598 95., has just been removed to Australia; Orlando, aged, by The Painter —Valeria, “ passed in his cheques” in Australia after leaving New Zealand a legacy of £579 10s as his last season’s earnings. The next to strike our notice is Cissy, 4yrs, the full sister to Trenton and Cuirassier (Musket — Frailty), who was bred by her present owner, Mr. T. Morrin, at the famous Wellington Park. She is credited with £565 ss. Hazel, who is very closely related to Hilda, being by Nordenfeldt—Ouida, comes immediately after Cissy with £560 10s as a three-year-old. A little further down we reach Lochness, 4yrs, by Ingomar—Albatross, £514 15s; and then the well-known and brilliant Hilda, by Musket— Quida, who won £498 15s as a five-year-old. Impulse is immediately behind with £485 9s. He is a three-year-old, by St. Leger —Aida. The two-year-old Nordenfeldt —Florence Macarthy, Tiraillerie, puts up £465 10s for Mr. Gollan, and Dollar claims £433 5s as her share. She is a six-year-old, by Sterling worth—Vacillation ; and Fiesole is just a length behind her with £422 15s. She is an Ingomar—Florence, and four years old. We have now noticed those horses that are most likely to interest our readers down to the £3OO list; and after making a small jump we arrive at Ingorangi, who presented his owner with £360 12s. Negotiating another jump, we fall upon Nap, by Don Juan—Quickstep, £328 ; and as we have now gone into the illegitimate game, we take another fence and catch Whalebone and Parnell together, the former with £3ll 15s, the latter £304. Proceeding onwards on our course, which we are now getting over at a rattling pace, the next horse we see in front of us is Leolantis, carrying £261 ss, Priscilla close behind him; she has £247 10s. Overtaking them, we meet Coalscuttle and Bit o’ Blue, with only two or three lengths between them. The former having a bit the best of the breeding, being by King Cole—Florence, has a bit in hand, £232 15s, the game little roan having £227. When we meet Tamora she has £199 to carry. Lenore, who is the next to trouble us, has £lB5 ss, Then we come to Waterfall,

by Musket—Cascade, with £lBO 15s. Pam and Fishmonger are next —the former has £176 10s and the Isaac Walton horse £173 ss. We now go a long distance before we come up to anything to bother us. Meeting Octopus, we dispose of him with £162 15s, and come to our old friend Takapu, but as he falls and nearly kills himself and his jockey with £147 10s, he troubles us no more. Passing over ten others, we meet the notorious Ironbark, who was disqualified for twelve months at the Otahuhu racecourse for questionable running. * He is a five-year-old, by Cap-a-pie —Jenny Lind, and before he came to grief he placed £142 10s to his credit. Close to him we find Brigand, lately purchas' d by a Gisborne native, with £137 15s; then we have Cartridge a dead heat with, him at the same figure. Still another gap, and we find we have Ingorina to deal with, by Ingomar —Hipporina, £l3O ss. Getting over another long stretch, we find the last we pur-, pose dealing with is Antelope, who carries with her £llO. - The sires interested in the table we have summarised total 222, the progeny 786, and the total winnings £72,424 10s. In addition there were 161 horses whose breeding is unknown with winnings amounting to £2,392 16s.
