CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB.
On Friday (to-morrow), August 7th, payment in connection with the following events are due, and payable to the secretary, Mr. W. H. Wanklyn, by 10 p.m.:— Acceptance — New Zealand Cup, £3 Further Payments — Welcome Stakes, £2 Derby, £2 Oaks, £2 First Forfeit— Challenge Stakes (1893), £5 ss.
TAKAPUNA J JOKEY CLUB.
On Friday (to-morrow), August 7th, the second payment of 1 sov. each is due for the Takapuna Stakes of 1892, the Anniversary Stakes of 1892, and the Takapuna Stakes of 1893, and payable to the secretary, Mr. R. Wynyard, by 9 p.m.
Shaw, the ex New Zealand champion has covered himself with glory, competing at Huddersfield on June 20th at sports got up for the newly arrived American athletes, he annexed the 120' yards hurdle race for a challenge cup in 16|secs., in the same afternoon he won the quarter mile hurdles from scratch in 59 3-sth secs., beating the Amateur record of the World. At the same meeting York won his heat in the 120 yards handicap from scratch in 12 l-sth secs., but was beaten in the final by 2 yards in 11 4-sth secs, by Pachett (England) who had 8£ yards start. The 220 yards championship was won in 22 3-sth secs, by Cary. The mile was run in 4min. 25 4-sth secs. The quarter was won by Badman easily in 59 2-sth secs.
