ONSLOW TROTTING CLUB.

A committee meeting of the Onslow Trotting Club was held on Thursday afternoon last at Mr. Mcßride’s shop, there was a full meeting of the committee present, when Messrs Halstead, Quinlan, and Mcßride, reported upon the various courses, they had visited George Wright’s at Kohimaramara, and found it to be a beautiful course and in every way suitable for their purpose, but the difficulties of getting to and from it were at present insurmountable, and they therefore could not recommend it at present, they also visited Mr. Bollard’s at Avondale, which was thought could be made a most suitable course containing 22 acres, and that gentleman was asked to send in a price to the club for the same. The desirability of affiliating with the Auckland Trotting Club was warmly discussed as against the claims of the New Zealand Trotting Association, but no decision was arrived at, it was decided to open up communication with both the New Zealand Association and the Auckland Trotting Club, so as to thoroughly understand their position before taking any decisive action in the matter. In the meantime it has been practically decided to hold the first meeting at Potters Paddock in September, when a wheel trot shall be included in their programme, and it will be arranged so that both the horse and the machine shall be handicapped, as at present no sulkies are available. It was announced that Messrs Cousins and Atkins are importing a dozen from America, and it was just possible if they were properly approached they would present one to be trotted for. In addition to the meeting in September the club have fully determined to have a two days meeting in December. The membership list is still being added to, and subscriptions are still coming in rapidly.
