TARANAKI JOCKEY CLUB.
The annual meeting of the Taranaki Jockey Club was held on Friday the sth inst. at the White Hart Hotel. Present: Messrs Standish, Paul,’Davis, Samuel, Watson, Govett, Jacob, Ellis, Cock, and others. Secretary.—Mr. Samuel pointed out that according to the rules a paid secretary could not be a member of the Club. —In consequence Mr. Bauchope stated that he would hold the position as an honorary one, and he was then elected to the post of honorary secretary and treasurer.
" Votes of thanks —Hearty votes of thanks were passed to Mr. Paul and Capt. Mace for acting as judge and starter respectively for so many years. Late Member.—Mr. Samuel moved, and Mr. Paul seconded, “ That this Club desires to record its deep regret at the serious loss it has sustained through the death of the late Mr. Charles Messenger, one of the oldest and most valued officers of the Club.” —Carried. New Members. —Messrs Witchell, E. Jacob, J. Turnbull, and H. G. Brown, were elected as new members. Balance-Sheet. —The secretary then read the statement of accounts as follows:—Expenditure : To balance, £220 6s 2d; stakes, £921 10s; interest on debentures, £69 12s; do. to Captain King’s trustees, £35; do. on overdraft, £26 6s ; printing and advertising, £5O 13s 9d; charges, £4O 6s; race day, officials, £23 5s 6d; Volunteer Band., £22 10s; wages, £2l 7s; handicapping, £2l ; salaries, £2O; insurance, £6 ; improvements, £32 18s 2d; law, £27 10;. furze grubbing, £7 7s; W. Humpries, £4; balance, £42 9s Id ; rent account, £67 3s lOd. Total, £1,659 4s 6d. Receipts: Totalisator, £449 14s; gates, £270 7s; nominations and acceptances, £424; grandstand, £217 18s; privileges, £lO6 0s 6d ; subscriptions, £79 14; grazing. £4B 14s 8d; programmes, £43 Is 4d; training fees, £l7 19s ; Football Club, £1 17s. Total, £1659 4s 6d. Assets Grandstand, £779 'Bs sd; freehold, £5OO ; fencing, racecourse, etc., £329 15s 4d ; sundry accounts, £145 3s; plant, £9 14s; cash in hand, £2 15s Id; total, £1766 15s lOd. Liabilities: Debentures, holders and interest, £lOBB 17s 6d ; King’s trustees, £500; ten years’ members, £6O; Bank of New South Wales, £73 9s 3d ; fines on hand, £2 ; profit and loss, contra balance, £42 9s Id. Total, £1766 15s lOd. The Secretary stated that the Club was virtually £4OO better than they were last year. Election of Officers. — The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:— President, Mr. A. Standish, Vice-President, Mr. W. Bayly, Stewards, Messrs O. Samuel, C. W. Govett, W. Thompson, J. T. Davis, B. Cock, T. Elliot, G. J. Newman, W. L. Newman, E. R. Haworth, N. King, Dr. O’Carroll, and Captain Mace. Committee, Messrs Standish, Govett, Paul, W. L. Newman, G. T. Newman, Davis, Cock, J. Ellis, N. King, Teed, F. Watson, Witcnell, and Bauchope. Auditors, Messrs W. L. Newman, and Ellis. Judge, Captain Mace. Clerk of the Scales, Mr. R. Cock. The meeting adjourned.
