George Laing, well-known in Auckland, while schooling Wairua, the Wanganui gelding purchased recently by Mr. Paneti, over the hurdles at Riccarton. Tomato was going in company and making the pace strong, and the pair negotiated all but ;he last successfully, and this proved a stumbling block to Wairua, as he came down through trying to gallop over a fallen hurdle. Laing was stunned, and had the back of his hand smashed, and it will be a few weeks before he can ride again. The accident was the first we have heard of over the schooling hurdles for a long time, but it appears that one of these were displaced, otherwise it is thought that it would not have occurred.
