EVENTS REQUIRING ATTENTION.
Eomont Racing Club. To-day, December 20th, nominations for the following events close with either Mr. H. H. Hayr, Tattersall’s Club, Auckland ; Mr. A. T. Danvers, Napier; or Mr. A. G. Brett, Secretary Egmont Racing Club, at 9 p.m.:— First Handicap Hurdles, 75 sovs., 2 miles and a distance Egmont Handicap, 300 sovs., 2 miles. Hawera Welter Handicap, 50 sovs. Flying Handicap, 75 sovs., 6 furlongs Second Handicap Hurdles, 75 sovs., 2 miles and a distance Waimate Handicap, 150 sovs. miles. Normanby Stakes, 50 sovs., miles Auckland Racing Club. On Wednesday next, December 24th, at noon, the forfeit of 5 sovs. for the Great Northern Foal Stakes must be declared and paid, or the nominator will be liable for the whole of the sweepstakes, 10 sovs.
While galloping on the training track at Caulfield on November 27th, Town Moor, the colt by .St,. Leger—Laura* one-of his fetlocks, and it will be some time, if ever, before he appears on the turf. “Cranbrook” is responsible for the following par : —“ Orlando, who won both Hurdle Races and the Steeplechase at the recent Auckland summer meeting, was purchased by his present owner, George Wright, a well-known cross-country rider in New Zealand, some few months ago for £2O 1 Orlando’s sire was The Painter, a son of The Marquis from Art Union. The N.Z. Referee has the following:— “Hunting bids fair to continue to prosper in Wellington. At the meeting of the Wellington Hunt Club the secretary was authorised to engage huntsmen tor the coming season, and arrange for the immediate transfer of the Feilding hounds to Wellington. A committee was appointed to superintend the erection of kennels on Mr. H. D. Crawford’s property at Miramar. What kind of horses will Wellington hunting men require to get over their country? There is hardly a level mile within reach of the city.
