CRICKET.

Gordon v. Parnell. —The former won the toss and batted first. So far they have made 180 for five wickets, of which Ryburn made 55, Williams 27, Lusk 23, Goulstone 21, Fouke 31 not out, and Clayton 10 not out. Ryburn made his runs in good style, and seems to have quite got over the nervousness he has displayed the last two seasons. He had bad luck in being run out. Williams and Lusk did not play so well as usual, Williams getting most of his runs by snicks. Goulstone played a nice free innings. Fouke and Clayton, the not outs, both played well. Lawson was the most successful batter for Parnell. Auckland v. St. Mary’s.—The latter won the toss and decided to take the field, which proved a big mistake, as Auckland were at the wickets all the afternoon, and scored 177 for nine wickets. Howlett made 67, and considering he was suffering from a sprained wrist and could not hit on the off side, his batting was really excellent. R. Neill again scored. His 50 was got in good style. Webster played well for 12. Rev. Mr. Preston made a promising first appearance, scoring 19 in good style. Smales and Stone were the most successful bowlers for St. Mary*s. United v. Alpha.—United kept the wickets all the afternoon, getting 168 for eight wickets. C. Harvie played a good innings of 55 not out. Mumford contributed 38 —areally good innings. Yates, MacCormick, and Lynch, also showed good form for 13, 14, and 17 respectively. Ponsonby v. Auckland ll.—Ponsonby 80 (Buchanan 12, D. Graham 23, Taylor 12, Pritchard 19).
