TURF TATTLE.

[By

NORDENFELDT.]

The Summer Meeting of the South Auckland Racing Club will be held on the Claudelands Racecourse, Hamilton, to-day. A fast excursion train has been laid on to convey racegoers to the scene of action. Good nominations and acceptances have been received, and, given fine weather, an excellent days sport should be witnessed. My anticipations of the likely winners are as follows :— Handicap Hurdles. 2 miles.

This event should be. fought out between the t\vo top-weights, and to seperate them 1 shall give my vote to Sentinel. South Auckland Cup. if miles.

This should be an excellent race. Leorina is in such good nick just now that whatever beats her should win. Antelope Ido not care for, but Patchwork is very well and should just about beat the top-weight at the difference of 61b Of the others, Tamora and Loch Ness should both run well. To give my vote to one, I shall single out Patchwork.

I have most fancy for Lonely.

Hurricane is in stable. This stable is in great “ protesting ” form just now, and if any mistakes are made look out for protests. In their absence I don’t think Hurricane has a show. Silvio should be well up, and so should Sentinel, while Fishmonger ought to run well. To make a selection I shall tip Silvio or Sentinel.

This event is, to a great extent, dependent upon previous running. The winner of the Cup will incur a 71b. penalty, and will probably be scratched. If Patchwork is an absentee, Leorina should win, or vice versa. I shall not separate them now. but tip Patchwork or Leorina. Flying Stakes. 6 furlongs.

Even without the assistance of a protest, 1 think Capella may win this race. I do not care for “patched-up” racehorses, in which category Scot Free and Pretender are included. Perhaps the first-named may be the better of the pair, but in any case I don’t think he can beat

Capella.

It is stated that Brown will ride Crackshot, and Clifford Medallion and Lebel in their engagements at the forthcoming meeting. Derritt also has arrived, so there will be no lack of good jockeys. The sale of the Sylvia Park Stud Company has been postponed from Saturday, January 3rd, until Monday, the sth, owing the San Francisco mail having started a day late. It would appear by this that some American buyers are expected.
