J ■ The Auckland Navals held an inspection parade last week, in rear of the Drill-shed, there being a splendid muster of 65, under Capt. Parker, Lieuts. Smith and Little. A competition for the position of Second-class P.O. was held, and Seaman Morrison passed through, making the maximum number of points. The Artillery Band were also in attendance under Bandmaster Hunter. Members of Rifle Clubs intending to compete at the forthcoming meeting at Napier must fire in uniform, and the following has been passed by the Martini Club: —Tunic —blue serge, made in the style of a Norfolk jacket, buttoned up to the throat, with band round waist; serge trousers, brown leather leggings and blue cloth cap with French peak. Free railway passes on Government lines will be granted to volunteers attending the Napier meeting, and will be issued by the officer commanding the district, also to bona fide members of the rifle clubs authorised by the Government, and in all cases they must travel in unifofrri. Special arrangements will be made (and duly notified) with the Wellington and Manawatu Railway Co. for transit on their line between Longburn and Wellington. Major Skinner, Capt. Tobin, Lieut. Haultain and Sergt McCallum have been appointed a sub-committee to make arrangements for a musical performance to raise funds to send twenty men to Napier to represent Auckland. The members of the “ A” Battery muster at one o’clock this afternoon to proceed to Stark’s Point, North Shore, to go through their annual shot and shell practice. The “ O ” Batteiy are still at Fort Resolution undergoing their usual course of training. This afternoon they hold shot and shell practice.
Mr. F. F. Dakin officiated as judge at the late meeting of the Victorian Racing Club at Flemington, his decisions giving every satisfaction. ’ ' • ■ -
