Slanderer, by Traducer out of Gitana, by Sir Hercules out of Gipsy Queen, by II Barbierre. GRIP thus combines some of the stoutest strains to be found in the Stud Book. Grip is a black horse, with a white blaze, standing 16 hands high, on short legs, and shows great power and quality. During his racing career he, at three years old, ran second for the Canterbury Derby and won the Dunedin St. Leger. He did not run as a four-year-old. At five years he won the C.J.C. Handicap, two miles, carrying Bst. 61bs.; the Canterbury Cup af 500 sovs., two and a quarter miles, carrying 9st. 51bs.; and Christchurch Plate. . . GRIP was an undoubted stayer under big weights, and m the season 1881 headed tke list of winners with a total of £1,455.
