PAKURANGA HUNT CLUB.
[By
Nordenfeldt.
Despite the heavy downpour of rain on Saturday morning, a number of members turned out to the meet in the afternoon and a very good run was made. The place of assembly was at the public pound on the New North Road, and shortly after two o’clock Warren on Huntsman was despatched with the drag, and took a course across country to the Old Stone Jug on the Whau road. The obstacles negotiated during the day were all stonewalls, and one of these quickly brough Mr. England, who was riding a chestnut horse, to ground. He did not participate in any further run during the day, having received a nasty shaking. A halt was made when the Stone Jug was reached, and the second drag was then laid from the Whau Asylum across the Avondale Road and thence to the old Onehunga Road, where another check took place. The third and last drag was laid from here to Epsom, over some excellent country and stiff obstacles. “If your horse be well bred and in blooming condition, Both up to the countiy and up to your weight, Oh! then give the reins to your youthful ambition, Sit down in your saddle, and keep his head straight. This was the policy pursued by a few, who dismounted at Wattie’s hotel well pleased with the afternoon’s sport. Among those following were conspicious—iVlr. Percival, Master, on Jim, the Huntsman on Laddie, Mr. Kelly on Playboy, Mr. Pollock on Begorra, Mr. T. Hayr on Ma Petite Fille, Mr. Sandall on Count, Mr. Colegrove on Fly, Mr. Martin on Uncas, Mr. Gilchrist on Ingersoll, and a few others. To-day the hounds will meet at Green Lane at two o’clock.
