The term 1 9 Natural Science is used in its modern restricted sense as consisting of the « 5 Sciences of Greology, Zoology, and Botany. 9 5 This Competition is open to anyone residing in New Zealand who does not ? hold a scientific appointment. Dr. Barraclough wishes to call the attention of • 9 farmers who are naturalists or interested in agricultural science to the Compe- 9 0 tition Essays should be on subjects of practical value. They must be original, 0 ? that is, the observations must have been made by the Competitors themselves, ? 4 and not be mere re-statements of other men's work. 9 6 Although not an absolute condition, it would be desirable, where possible, 0 ? that illustrative photos, or sketches should be sent with the essays. ? • Contributions for this Competition must be forwarded, addressed Editor 6 N.Z.
