My Neighbour.
(Translation of a poem by Alfred De Mussett). I see my neighbour's Curtain stir, My neighbour over the way — She comes ! Ah, she knows I watch for her At close of dusty day. Slowly the lattice Opens wide. I shall see her, my heart's desire, As she drinks the dewy evening air, Born of the noontide fire. Alas! it is but a dream, A dream ! 'Tis another she loves, not me ; The voice of the wind that her curtain raised Whispers — " It cannot be." Faith Garnett.
